Applications Chemist

This position is located at our Valley Cottage, NY office

Position Summary: 

As a valued member of our R&D team, this position will have hands-on responsibility to develop premium formulations across skin care, sun care and cosmetics.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops new formulations utilizing knowledge of chemical ingredients and processes that meet the desired technical and aesthetic attributes specified by customers.
  • Prepares lab batches needed for submitting samples for customer analysis within lab schedule, and reformulating / resubmitting them based on customer’s feedback.
  • Maintains detailed and organized lab notebook with detailed observations while making lab batch.
  • Assists in developing detailed lab scale process including order of addition, critical raw materials and processing parameters, bench standard and benchmark, and lab scale preliminary specification and test results
  • Provides technical support to sales staff and customers; participates on account teams and teleconferences
  • Works closely with new chemists and technicians to teach, coordinate, and collaborate on projects
  • Communicates all information regarding formulation, project status, costing, and results to all appropriate individuals, maintaining confidentiality requirements.
  • Performs/Monitors calibration and validation of all lab instruments.
  • Maintains clean, safe and well-organized lab working area.
  • Troubleshoots formulas as well as continuous improvement of existing formulas and process.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years color liquid/emulsion system experience
  • BS in Chemistry or related science discipline or higher
  • Experience in product development from inception, through testing, scale up and transition to manufacturing
  • Ability to evaluate formulas, interpret results, and communicate improvements
  • Ability to provide technical advice and support to less experienced team members
  • A strong team player with a positive and professional attitude and a strong bias for action to solve challenges
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail
  • Hands on formulating experience necessary
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as excellent presentation skills
  • Self-starter with a high level of initiative who can work independently, meet tight timelines and execute tasks within defined development projects with limited supervision.
  • Aptitude to innovate & problem solve with “out of the box” thinking.
